Box Frame Styles

Box frames are a versatile option for displaying a wide range of artworks, including photographic prints, works on paper and 3D works. With the ability to mount, float, or enclose works in a mat board window, box frames offer a variety of presentation options.

In addition to our range of supplied mouldings, we also offer custom options, milled in-house that can be painted, stained or waxed.

Shadow Frame styles

Shadow frames are L-shaped frames that are suitable for works with open faces including canvases, paintings, mounted and sculptural works.

Shadow frames provide protection to unglazed works and are designed to set-back the work to prevent damage.

In addition to our range of supplied mouldings, we also offer custom options, milled in-house that can be painted, stained or waxed.

MEASUREMENTS

Please send through all measurements in millimeters and be as accurate as possible to ensure we quote you accordingly.

Artwork measurements

For two dimensional artworks such as photographic prints or works on paper, please provide measurements as the width x height. If this measurement includes a border, please let us know if you would like it included in the frame or if you would prefer it cropped (“framed to the image”).

Please give us a call or send us an email with images attached for more sculptural works.

Frame measurements

The face of the frame is the measurement taken of the front of the frame.

The height of the frame is the measurement taken of the side of the frame and is its overall depth from the wall.

The rebate width or lip of the frame is the measurement of the surface of the face that holds the glazing.

The rebate depth of the frame is the is the measurement of the distance between the the glazing and the back of the frame which accommodates the artwork, backing, bracing, spacers or mat boards.

fixings and hanging systems

We offer a range of fixing options including split batten, D-rings, key hole hangers, C-Channels and custom hanging solutions.

We recommend split batten and D-rings for larger, heavier works. These options provide the necessary support to ensure your artwork remains securely in place on the wall. Additionally, we always recommend hanging works from two points to avoid compromising the structural integrity of the frame.

For smaller frames, a single point of attachment may be sufficient. In this case, a screw can be placed in the wall, with an acrylic cord attached to D-rings on the back of the frame.

Please do not add or change the hanging system required without consulting with a framer.

D-rings

D-rings are a popular and reliable hanging system for the back of frames. This type of hanging system requires two D-shaped pieces of hardware attached to the back of the frame. The rings are then hung from two points on the wall. This method of hanging is preferred for larger and heavier frames, as it provides stability and keeps the frame flush to the wall.

Split batten hanging system

Available in wood or aluminum, the cleat lies flush against the wall and is recommended for heavy, large frames. Two pieces are cut to “lock” into one another, one screwed to the wall while the is inbuilt into the top bar of the frame.

C-Channel hanging system

The C-Channel hanging system is an easy to install, durable solution for hanging mounting works or objects. This system consists of two parts that slot into each other, the C-Channel, a narrow strip of aluminium and the mounting bracket. The wall bracket is easily mounted to the hanging surface using screws.

mending frames and damaged artworks

Our Framing Consultants are able to assess your damaged frame to see if repair, conservation or reframing is required.

When it comes to repairing or replacing frames, please bring the frame in to be assessed, and we will evaluate both the frame and artwork for damage.

If the frame was originally constructed by us, we are more likely to be able to work with the existing materials or reuse existing elements to mend the frame. This is due to our understanding of the methods and materials involved in its creation. If the frame was built by another framer, our knowledge of the frame may be limited, and we may not be able to repair or replace all of its elements.

In the event that a frame is beyond repair, we can suggest reframing options either to match the existing frame or to introduce a new style.

We also offer a service to discard broken glass, frames and mounted artworks for a small destruction fee. This service ensures that the broken frame and glass are disposed of safely and responsibly.

If an artwork has sustained damage, we can seek the advice of a conservator prior to reframing the work.
