Marrickville Council Perfect Match 2015

The Marrickville Council's Perfect Match  initiative between building owners and graffiti launched their 2015 program celebrating art in public spaces . Get on down to see what is going on in the neighbourhood....

Marrickville Council is playing Cupid again. From 31 July to 1 August, join property owners as their walls are transformed by artists for Perfect Match.
Check out installations in progress and join a walking, bus, cycle or guided photography tour.
Enjoy free community celebrations with a fantastic lighting installation to celebrate 50 years of the iconic Petersham Water Tower.

Perfect Match is one of Council's initiatives to prevent unwanted graffiti through fostering legitimate creative expression and art in public spaces.

Neighbourhood Celebrations

Marrickville Council – along with Perfect Match partner Sydney Water, artists and property owners – invite you to celebrate the Perfect Match artworks. Everyone's welcome.

Friday 31 July 2015

11am – 12 noon

Location: Corner Shepherd Street and Chapel Street, Marrickville
Artists: Art of Wall

Join the artists, the kids at Marrickville Public School and members of THE JETS footy club to unveil a bold new artwork celebrating a combined love of great sport and art.

5.30pm – 7.30pm: Celebrate 50 Years of Petersham Water Tower

Location: Car Park, corner Regent Street and New Canterbury Road, Petersham
Artists: Esem Projects

The heritage listed Petersham Water Tower – an underground reservoir - was built in the 1880s, and the elevated tank in 1965, making it 50 years old. It services nearly 100,000 people.

Join us in celebrating 50 years of Petersham Water Tower as we switch on Proud Tower, by Esem Projects. Learn about the heritage, engineering and people who built Petersham Water Tower, and its importance to the past and future of the inner west.

Free hot chocolate, marshmallows, live music and more! BYO sparklers!

Saturday 1 August 2015

Location: Victoria and Hobbs Café, 13 Victoria Street, Lewisham
Artist: Birdhat

Grab a fresh coffee and tasty treats to mark the opening of the Victoria and Hobbs Café in Lewisham. Birdhat has created a work that reflects the village atmosphere.

11am – 12 noon

Location: Asylum Seeker Centre, Becher House, 43 Bedford Street, Newtown
Artist: Jumboist

Join the artist, staff, local residents and community to unveil a warm and welcoming new artwork by renowned local Street Artist, Jumboist.

Light refreshments served.

2pm – 3pm

Location: 10 Pearl Street, Newtown
Artist: Mulga

The artwork is being created alongside a planned rainwater garden, a local community initiative which is part of Council's sustainable water education programs. After applying a plaque to celebrate the installation of the artwork, local community will participate in a "Water Catchment" stencil art application.

Self-guided Art on the Street tour

Follow this map (1 August 2015, 1pm to 3pm) and meet artists at work at 14 sites across Marrickville, plus visit some of the best existing street artworks across Marrickville.

Perfect Match Bicycle Tours

Enjoy a guided tour on wheels hosted by Gilbert Grace of ARTcyle. Learn about Marrickville's amazing street art collection. Meet the artists and property owners, and join community celebrations along the way.
